As a former doctor, now working in lifestyle medicine and nutrition, I felt like i had a lot of knowledge that 'should' have helped me bounce back after having a baby. But it was hard. Really hard. And when I went looking for some realistic, evidence-based information to support my postpartum recovery, there was so little out there. Not least from the medical establishment. 

Without wanting to medicalise a common and (mostly!) joyful life event, it certainly helps to have good information to base our decisions on. Information like what to eat to replenish ourselves after pregnancy and birth, how to heal our wounds, and what we can do to support a fragile state of mind.
