Balance is a concept that we consider everyday in nutritional practice, but perhaps never more so than when we think about Women’s Health.

The beautifully intricate dance of hormones that is occurring 24/7 in our bodies influences almost all our body processes.  But those hormones need to be in equilibrium, or symptoms and side effects can occur; from pain and bloating to hot flushes, fertility challenges, or skin changes. Hormones that are out of balance certainly do their best to let you know about it!

The conventional model of medicine uses a whole range of approaches to help mitigate these symptoms. Medication and hormone therapies are usually tried first, but more drastic approaches including surgery or are also common. Sometimes, this is absolutely the appropriate approach to take and I would never suggest going against medical advice.

However, there is another path that many women may benefit from exploring alongside their conventional medical care. One where side effects can instead be side-benefits, and where we learn to work with our bodies, not against them.

That path is personalised nutrition and functional medicine.
